News from Germany
My sister might find this especially interesting, as she is well on her way to being conversationally fluent in German.
But I think the rest of you will find these two articles interesting as well. The first is a story of a Muslim couple. The husband was beating the wife, so the wife wanted to get a separation. But after this was granted, "the spurned husband threatened to kill his wife." The wife went to the courts to get an expediated divorce from the man. But the judge ruled that because the couple were Muslim, and because the Koran gives a husband the right to "castigate" his wife for behaving unchastely, the wife shouldn't be given the expediated divorce. According to the wife's lawyer, "Apparently the judge deems it unchaste when my client adapts a Western lifestyle."
I wonder if that same judge would rule that a Christian parent could spank their child?
The second article is a bit more cheery. In Germany, a group of women is promoting a "new feminism": being a stay-at-home mom. The woman at the center of it is a three-times divorcee who used to have a career, but has since transformed herself into an "über-Hausfrau" (super housewife). Her motivation? Germans are dying out, and she sees herself as boldly and bravely saving her race. Interesting, to say the least.
