Quirky Things About Me

Courtesy of Myfriendconnie. (It took me forever to come up with these. Something quirky about me? I'm 100% normal - it's everyone else that's quirky! ;-)

1. I eat my ice cream very slowly, about 1/4 spoonful in each bite. And yet, I don't like soft, partially melted ice cream.

2. I love chemistry, especially organic chemistry. My favorite questions would go something like this: "Find a process that will transform [organic compound 1] into [organic compound 2] in 4 steps." Endless fun!

3. Due to living in 3 different states in 3 different years (all 3 had different math curricula), I missed the first 1/2 of Geometry, and so I never learned the basics of Geometry and have always found it frustrating and difficult. As luck would have it, I find myself now doing Geometry tutoring.

4. I am generally not a picky eater. However, I will not touch bananas, mayonnaise (except in potato salad and pimento cheese spread), or vinegar (except when I can't smell it).

5. I like spreadsheets. I will spend hours organizing a spreadsheet with information I will never touch again. But it was so satisfying making it....

6. In my mind, I am going to write the Next Great American Novel. In reality... well, let's not go there. ;-) Suffice it to say that no one (not even my husband) has read any of my writings, and it will likely stay that way.

Ooh! Exciting! I've never been tagged before!

Quirk #1: When I was a kid, I hated hamburgers -- except if they came from McDonalds, and if said burgers were prepared with no condiments except extra pickles. That's right, bun, meat, about 14 or 15 pickles, bun. (Usually, they skimped and gave me about 5. Once, they gave me a cup filled halfway with pickles; that was a wonderful day.) I don't eat at McDonalds anymore, but when I have hamburgers, they still require a ridiculous amount of pickles. I like lettuce, tomato, and red onion on my burgers now, too.

Quirk #2: When I was a kid and got sick with a cold, I would stack insane numbers of pillows on top of each other to elevate my head. At some point, three was my usual and I'd go for a fourth if it was really bad. With allergy season upon us, I've been stacking two pillows for the last week, but have managed to limit it to that.

Quirk #3: I love cleaning. If I could have added one more day onto this holiday weekend, I would have purged my closet of old clothes, vacuumed the whole apartment and my car, moved the microwave cart so I could do a thorough sweep and mop of the kitchen, cleaned the soap buildup in our shower caddy, washed the bath mat and mopped under it, thrown out old magazines, taken our pots and pans out of the cabinets and cleaned inside, .... (I could think of more if I let myself.) As it is, I spent half of Saturday doing other fun cleaning projects, and the preceding list is just the things I didn't have time for. ;-)

Quirk #4: I like to make up songs. What, not quirky enough for you? Maybe you've never heard some of the songs I make up. I have this one about it being cold that Harmony can confirm is sufficiently quirky; it's great to sing in the Frigid North in the Dead of Winter.

Quirk #5: I like bowls. If I had my way, I would eat all the elements of my meals in separate bowls. I also like spoons. All the best foods in the world can be eaten with a spoon: soup, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, butter beans, turnip greens, ice cream, pudding. Really, if you have to use a fork, you should seriously consider whether or not it's really worth eating.

Quirk #6: I think turnip greens are one of the best foods in the world. (That may be quirkier than the whole spoon/bowl obsession; I don't know.)

Harmony, about #4, I'm with you on the bananas, but do you mean you could pass up a pickle juice snow cone?! Mmmmm, good!

And...could Laura come on over to my house to satisfy her #3 quirk?

  • Harmony

Lol. No way. I do like pickles in kimbap (Korean sushi rolls) and I like pickle juice in egg salad and deviled eggs.

Harmony, I could add a few things to your list! But for me:

    1) I taught myself cryptography for fun.

    2) I have no interest at all in driving a nice new car.

    3) I like my foods separate. Bananas, vanilla wafers, vanilla pudding -- much better separately than mixed to make banana pudding!

    4) I like really hot spicy food.

    5) I like all sorts of animals, but my pet of choice is a parrot.

    6) I only have five quirky things about me. ;-)

Thanks for the tag! I can think of nothing quirky about me...

    ;-)

Actually, I have so much going on in my life right now, I don't think I can think about it. Right now my family is dealing with a suicide (not in the immediate family) and I just want to lay low and seek the Lord.

    Thanks for thinking of me.
