Whole Wheat Banana Bread

If you read the post below, you would know that I hate bananas. This extends to banana bread. However, JunkMale takes bananas to work with him. When the bananas go soft and mushy (eew!), banana bread is on the menu -- for him, at least. This is my recipe for banana bread. It was modified from this recipe for Banana Wheat Bread.

EDIT: JunkMale would also like to add that he loves this recipe because it doesn't use any sort of refined sweetener. Only natural sources such as apples and honey.

Whole Wheat Banana Bread

Dry ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup ground flax seed (optional)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp fresh ground nutmeg, or 1/4 tsp pre-ground

Wet ingredients:
1 1/2 cups mashed over-ripe bananas (eew!)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce (EDIT by JunkMale: homemade by Harmony is the best)
1/2 cup honey
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla.

Mix dry ingredients, and in another bowl mix wet. Pour the wet into the dry and stir until combined. Pour into a greased loaf pan, and bake for 45 minutes in a 350F oven. Enjoy... or not. :P

(By the way, JM loves this recipe... my comments only display my complete disgust with regards to the banana.)

Harmony, you must really love that man :-P I think mashing bananas must be as unpleasant for you as mixing meatballs is for me. (eeew! raw meat *and* raw eggs!)

Seriously, though, have you found any good ways to avoid banana contact? Mashing the bananas in a food processor, using a long-handled spoon, wearing a gas mask, ... ?

How about asking my husband to mash them up and mix them in for me?? :-D

You sound just like my sister. She doesn't like raw meat either -- I remember the look on her face the first time she mixed meatballs by herself. I think she has since conquered her fears a bit. ;)

Oops! I posted that from my other Google profile. You found me out, though; it was me :-)

It would seem that you conquered your fear to an extent, too....

You know, I even tried to check and see if it was you by clicking on your profile... but of course, it was set as "private"...
