Will She Have Time to Be a Mom AND VP?
For anyone that doesn't know, Sarah Palin is the presumptive running mate for John McCain. Probably a good choice for McCain, who would've been met with jeers, vomit, frogs, and other sorts of utter revulsion had he picked Lieberman.
She is a mother of 5, her youngest being born in April 2008, with Down syndrome. I do hope she will still have time to be a mother, what with all the campaigning and (if McCain is elected) going to meetings and doing what politicians do.
EDIT: I predict that this selection will result in at least slightly better poll results for McCain.
I think nearly the same question could be asked of any of the male candidates -- will he have time to be a dad AND a public official? Of course with a newborn, the need for Mom is a bigger deal, but what of a teenager who never has Dad around? I guess you just hope that her husband and older children pick up a lot of the slack, and that she isn't too overwhelmed to do right by her family as well as her country.
John McCain has adopted at least one child with severe medical problems. Sarah Palin recently gave birth to a child with Downs Syndrome, powerful evidence of her pro-life stance. That proves something profound about both candidates' character. (Oh... there's also that bit about time in the prisoner of war camp...)
On the other side, we have long-term relationships with Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright...
I think McCain just got a big boost by choosing her. The first thing I thought of, though, was her children. Especially the baby. Children need a mother at home.
