Homemade Trail Mix

I mentioned in my last post that I was sitting in my bed eating homemade trail mix. It's actually quite good. I am not the biggest fan of commercial trail mixes, so I was initially skeptical of making my own, but it turns out that if I'm picking all my favorite nuts and dried fruits, it actually ends up being something I don't mind eating. Go figure. ;-)

Making trail mix is so ridiculously easy that I feel a bit foolish posting a recipe, but you never know. These days there might be someone out there who's looking for a trail mix recipe online and comes across mine. Plus, I just think mine is yummy, and yummy foods deserve to be blogged.

So without further ado, here is my trail mix "recipe":

Roasted, salted almonds
Roasted, salted pistachios
Roasted, salted cashews
Sweetened dried cranberries (it so happens they are orange flavored, but that really doesn't matter)
Semi-sweet chocolate chips

I made a big bowl of the mix, filled a freezer bag with the mix and put it in the freezer (because nuts can and do go rancid). The midwife advised me to keep nuts by my bed and to eat some just before bed and right when I wake up. This is all well and good, but the nuts start looking a lot more appealing when you add in the chocolate and cranberries! Of course, as it is, JunkMale has ended up eating more of the mix than I have. I guess that means it tastes good....

That looks so yummy! I am afraid I would eat the whole bowl in one sitting LOL. We love to make our own trail mix...I think my favorite dried fruit to put in it is dehydrated pineapple...yummy!
